Today is the day, licking my hand and wagging your tail as you draw your last breath,
forgiving me in the farewell.

Today is the day, stroking your head,
"Good dog" ~ I love you. "Too late for
tomorrow, my heart hurts, my eyes burn.
No, today is the day, I have to deal with the
sorrow.

Today is the day, big brown eyes, look at
me, question screaming, "Why me?" Maybe
I'll wait until tomorrow, someone will love
you. No today is the day, I have no way to
answer you.

Today is the day, they are so happy to see
me, are we coming out to play? Maybe I'll
wait until tomorrow, one more day won't
hurt. No, today is the day, can't justify the
delay.

Today is the day, I sit here wondering,
is there another way? Maybe I'll wait until
tomorrow, surely someone will see what a
wonderful friend you would be. No, today
is the day, I know there is no other way.
